Different Abilities Music Festival || at Modesto 153rd Annual 4th of July [parade] celebration.

The Different Abilities Music Festival took part in Modesto’s 153rd annual 4th of July Celebration [Float 112]. This event was in partnership with the nonprofit organization “Autism doesn’t sleep,” based in Modesto. The parade showcased local businesses and community groups doing remarkable work. Our presence aimed to promote inclusion and active participation, celebrating the abilities of individuals with disabilities on a 20-person inclusive float. As we traveled along the parade route, we connected with more individuals with disabilities and their families, who were supportive and eager to learn about our upcoming major event in the city. We were so thrilled that we handed out our remaining fundraising T-shirts for free. Participating in Modesto’s 153rd annual 4th of July Celebration left a lasting impact on us.
Our Board members have been collaborating with groups of mothers of children with developmental disabilities in Modesto. We are supporting locally organized events and planning to host our first event with them this winter. We also wish to express our gratitude to Modesto’s Autism Mom group for assisting in our expansion into the city. Thank you to all our sponsors for the 4th of July event, and a special thanks to the Modesto July parade planning committee for ensuring our float was accessible, safe, and ready for the event. We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of so many who helped us along the way.
As we continue to grow our presence in the community, we remain committed to our mission and the vision ahead. Bringing special education’s professional development training to each community through strategic means, connecting and rebuilding the pathway of support and services offered in each community through celebrations, collaborations, and education. We believe that helping the community understand how to support people with disabilities could open more doors for employment and inclusion. Different Abilities Music Festival is more than just a music festival; it is the 21st-century disability celebration, driving inclusion and equity in support. Gratitude to the City of Modesto and all of our sponsors and supporters for ensuring our success in the parade. We look forward to hosting a 50-person float in next year’s parade celebration.
